Transition 2 Follow diagram left to right.
Tempo to be strong, powerful & focussed on block. No stopping.
Look to the left, turn with feet together pivoting on the ball of the foot.
Right arm blocking with Soto Uke as part of left arm Jodan Age Uke.
Keep your ‘triggered fist’ high under your armpit - not on your hip. Keeps knees slightly bent.
Position 3
Step back into Sanchin Dachi right leg, left arm Jodan Age Uke. This is the first step back and block.
Geometry: Stance should not be vertical but have a slight forward inclination. From the side, the right heel, knee, left hip and left fist should be aligned. The Right ball of foot, knee, hip, fist and head should be aligned.
Outside edge of feet should be parallel and shoulder width - which gives the inside edge of the feet a slight inward angle.
When blocking Age Uke keep blocking arm on a steep angle on the upstroke, softening the angle to about 45 degrees at the apex. Keep elbows within body space - especially at apex of block. Fist of blocking hand should point away from your head at 45 degrees thus using the Ulna bone of the forearm to counter the attack.
Bend your knees slightly & pivot your hip slightly upwards.
Position 4
Step forward into Sanchin Dachi with right leg. Cover blocking Soto Uke as you punch right arm Oi Tsuki Jodan. (Lunge punch targeting jaw or neck area).
Geometry: From above the left elbow and fist should point to the right fist. Lines drawn from the feet should meet below the right fist. A line drawn from the left heel, through the left knee should meet at the right fist. A line from the left ball of foot through the left knee and hip, along the spine and through the head should be angled slightly forward.
